Markinch take honours in league fixture

On Wednesday afternoon, there was a league game against Balgonie 2 Bowling Club in the Wemyss & District Seniors’ League.

In the home game, F.Campbell,B.Barnes, J.Davies Snr., and B.Cowan (skip) were trailing 9-11 after 11 ends, but managed to win three of the last four ends to record a 16-12 win. The away game was a totally different story as G.Grant, G.Shaw, B.Bell and T.Young (skip) totally dominated their game to run out winners by 33 shots to 8, giving victory to Markinch by 5 points to nil.

There was a ladies friendly home fixture against Crail B.C. on Thursday afternoon which resulted in a win for the visitors by 28 shots to 19. The individual scores were defeats for both Mrs.A.Blackadder (9-12) and Mrs.C.Telford (10-16).

In the Wemyss & Disrtict League there was a Division 1 league home game played against Methilhill B.C. On rink 1, S.McFarlane, A.Blair, J.Davies Jnr. and D.Comrie (skip) were quick out of the traps and led 9-2 after only 7 ends. Although their opponents did temporarily fight back to reduce the deficit to 7-9, D.Comrie’s rink took command losing only one of the last 8 ends to win 26-9. On rink 2, K.Bunting, J.Buchan, M.Comrie and T.Young (skip) appeared to be in control, before their opponents levelled the score 8-8 after 11 ends. However, they soon regained their grip on the game to run our winners by 16 shots to 12. On rink 5, A.Thomson, J.Clark, T.Petttigrew and R.Crawford (skip) were trailing 5-8, then 12-13 with 4 ends to play before taking the game to the last end to pick up the winning shot and a win by 16 shots to 15. This gave victory to Markinch and an overall winning score by 8 points to nil.

The next game is another home fixture next Friday against East Wemyss B.C.

On Saturday, the away leg of the MacArthur Cup was played against Buckhaven B.C. with Markinch recording an excellent 112-98 win and a 14 shot lead for the second home leg, later in the season. The individual scores were wins for B.Barnes (19-18), A.Blair (18-15) and P.McTavish (24-11), defeats for J.Lafferty (16-17) and T.Young (16-18) with a draw for J.Dewar (19-19).
