JONNY Adam’s hopes of finishing a frustrating British GT season on a high were dashed by yet another stroke of bad luck on Sunday.

Over the year, the Kirkcaldy endurance racer, along with Beechdean Aston Martin team mate Andrew Howard, have seen their championship hopes wrecked by a series of unfortunate setbacks.

And just to top it off, in the final race of 2012 at Donington Park, another mishap robbed the team of a potential podium result.

Having moved up from sixth on the grid to second in the race, slight contact with another car caused damage to the Aston Martin’s rear suspension, and after dropping off the pace, the car eventually had to be retired.

Adam told the Press: “It was another nightmare weekend.

“We qualified in sixth but felt we could have been higher because we were on a really good lap when the red flag came out.

“It didn’t really matter though because in the race Andrew was doing really well and was getting past one of the Lamborghinis when contact was made.

“We saw it on the TV monitors and it didn’t look too bad - but it damaged the rear suspension.

“Andrew managed to drive round the problem and keep going but his pace dropped.

“He pitted, we did the change-over, and I went back out – but the car was just undriveable.

“We dropped back down to 14th place so decided just to call it a day.

“Without the contact our pace was there to have a good result – and that’s been the story of our season.

“I’ve never experienced a year in motor racing with as much bad luck as this. There’s been so many what ifs.

“It’s a new team and a new car, so we expected it to be a development year and that we’d need to learn how to make the car quick.

“But it’s not been that at all – the car’s been quick most weekends – we’ve just had no luck at all.

“It’s been a frustrating year - hopefully we can bounce back next year.”

Adam is currently in talks with Aston Martin over a possible return to the British GT Championship next year.
