National success for area karate team

KARATE enthusiasts James Ford Jnr and Jay Hogg have had huge success at a national competition.

Both were representing the Shotokan 2000 Karate group at the Scottish Grand Prix, with Jay winning the 15 years’ Cadettes title and James the over-18 kata events.

On his way to his title, James won two golds, a silver and a bronze in the four tournaments.

Team mate Jay won one gold, two silver and a bronze.

James also won the Scottish Open Championships earlier on in the year and Jay had success when he took bronze in the British Championships.

Coach James Ford Snr said: “This made it a great year for the two lads.

“They are looking forward to more success next year.

“Also winning medals on the day were Chris Hollands who won a silver medal in the heavyweight, Joel Duffin lifted a bronze medal, and Steve McKay lifted a bronze medal.

“To round the year off, Jim Weir was awarded the British Karate Federation referees certificate.”
