ROVERS welcomed Rosyth to Pittenweem for their first league game of the season, which finished level at 2-2.

The visitors got off to a good start, scoring after five minutes, when a long ball forward was headed on and a shot from the edge of the box hit the inside of the post and ended up in the net.

Before the half-time whistle, Pittenweem had plenty opportunities to score – one of the best falling to Mike Gardner after 36 minutes when he controlled an Alex Bowman pass, turned quickly, and shot from a tight angle, with his effort saved.

The second half started in the same manner as the first ended, with Rovers trying to get back in the game. Shots in the first few minutes from midfielders Neale Smith and David Wilson were both saved by the Rosyth ‘keeper.

With six minutes of the second 45 played, Pittenweem finally got the goal they deserved when Neale Smith was fouled 25 yards from goal.

James Ketchen got the ball down to take a quick free-kick, which he fired into the corner of the net to level the score.

Rovers continued to push forward in numbers, looking for the winner, but they were dealt a blow after 25 minutes when, on a rare Rosyth attack, they had a shot from well outside the box which was deflected into the net by a Pittenweem player’s leg.

The home side were again looking to get back on level terms and they grabbed the equaliser just five minutes later when, following a good run by Liam McGhee, Smith’s shot wasn’t held by the Rosyth ‘keeper and Gary Wishart was on hand to put the rebound into the net.

Saturday’s match ball was kindly sponsored by Adamsons Joinery.
