Pittenweem leave it late to snatch 2-1 win

Greig Park Rangers.........................1

Pittenweem Rovers..........................2

PITTENWEEM made their second trip to Windygates in as many weeks to face Greig Park in The Taylor Sullivan Cup.

The visitors were looking to redress the balance following a defeat the previous week.

The hosts, having weathered an early storm, quickly became more of a threat.

A good delivery from a corner saw the Rovers defence partially clear, but only as far as a midfielder, who blasted the ball beyond Bowman.

Pittenweem drew level in 75 minutes in bizarre fashion when an attack broke down and a Rangers defender gathered the ball to clear.

Unfortunately the attempted clearance cannoned off a team-mate and flew into his own net beyond the helpless ‘keeper.

Neale Smith leapt above everyone else to send a looping header into the net from a corner to put Rovers ahead with only three minutes remaining.

Greig Park threw everything up front in an attempt to salvage the tie, exposing themselves at the back and a slick pass from the Pittenweem rear-guard in injury time saw Muir closing in on goal with only the ‘keeper to beat, but the referee stopped him in his tracks by signalling full time.
