Rain stopped most of the cricket play

VERY little cricket was played at the weekend as rain waterlogged pitches, including Largo CC’s East Drive home.

The first XI match against Watsonians 2 was called off, as was the second XI’s match at Pitreavie against Dunfermline Carnegie.

The fourth XI was able to get in a match on the artificial wicket at Station Park, St Andrews.

Glenrothes thirds were the visitors and, batting first, put on 97 for nine from their 40 overs.

In response, Largo were 78 all out, with Luke Parkhill hitting 18 and keeping Largo in the match right to the end.

On Sunday, Largo thirds played Carlton fours.

Put in to bat, Carlton looked in trouble at 30 for three but Carlton recovered to reach 185 for seven.

After a very welcome tea interval, Largo started batting in gradually worsening conditions as the rain became more persistent.

Captain Rob Tooze went in the first over, adjudged lbw, and Largo struggled to get runs on the board.

However, with a solid 24 from youngster Hughes Gillin and 31 by veteran George Nairne, Largo did make 138 for nine.

Main was the Carlton top bowler, with four for 36, and Nairne was Largo’s man of the match with his three wickets and 31 runs.
