Rovers and Rangers hit high scoring form

PITTENWEEM travelled to Windygates to face Greig Park Rangers in round two of the Scottish Cup and triumphed in a 10-goal thriller, winning 6-4.

Rovers had a great start and went ahead inside two minutes when a ball into the box by Darren Davidson was helped on by Gary Wishart to James Ketchen, who hit a volley from 20 yards into the top corner.

Greig Park tried to get back on level terms and did so from a corner just after the 25-minute mark. Rovers were behind for only two minutes though, as Craig Cameron headed home from another corner.

The visitors then went 3-1 ahead after 32 minutes, when Marc Cameron scored direct from a free kick, but Greig Park then pulled one back to make it 3-2 at half-time.

The second half almost started in the same manner as the first when, after six minutes, Craig Cameron set up Mike Gardner for a shot from just inside the box, but the Pittenweem midfielder’s effort struck the crossbar.

It was no real surprise though when Greig Park equalised after 65 minutes when a long through ball broke to their player and he ran in to score in the bottom corner.

They took the lead five minutes later when a low cross from the left was slid home from close range.

With just over three minutes remaining, and in one of their few attacks of the second half, Rovers scored to make it 4-4 with a cross from Liam Tarvit and a header into the corner at the back post by Gary Wishart.

A replay looked on the cards, but in the 90th minute, Rovers scored again when Craig Cameron was fouled in the box and a penalty was awarded. The Rovers striker took the kick himself, making no mistake.

Pittenweem scored again in injury time to make the score 6-4 and guarantee their spot in round three when Darren Davidson hit a long pass out to Marc Cameron on the left. Cameron then played a one-two with Mike Gardner and he managed to squeeze the ball into the net.
