Season is underway at Markinch

The Lady President, Anne Blackadder, threw the first jack to open the outdoor season at Markinch Bowling Club on Saturday.

The weather was dry and sunny, although most of the 30 players wore jackets to keep warm during the traditional President v Vice-President’s game. The result was a victory for the President’s teams, although the scores on some of the cards could have been called to question.

The first friendly fixture of the season was also played, with Thornton B.C. the visitors. There were victories for Ms A.Calder (20-14), S.McFarlane (15-11) and G.Shaw (23-8), but defeats for J.Dewar (12-13) and J.Garden (15-18), which overall gave victory to Markinch by 85 shots to 64.

The competition sheets for this season are on the board in the locker room and any member who wants to enter the Wemyss League competitions must hand in their entries to the match secretary by Sunday, 29 April.

The Club are considering registering ‘club colours’ with the Scottish Bowling Association, depending on the interest shown by members, so anyone interested in purchasing a shirt should add their name to the sheet in the locker room notice board.
