Spanish given a Scots lesson

A GROUP of 56 elite young footballers have visited Madrid, where they took part in a training camp at the Spanish national centre.

Members of the AMsoccer side, which includes players from Levenmouth and the Neuk, stayed at the centre, where they were given some priceless coaching.

The trip came at the end of 12 months of fund-raising and also featured a visit to the Bernabeu Stadium to watch Real Madrid.

But it wasn’t all sight seeing, as the young players were also provided with a challenge match against the Atletico Madrid youth side.

Showing just how talented the AMsoccer side is, they came out on top against the opposition from one of Spain’s most famous clubs.

Following the game with Atletico, their coaches have invited some of the young players over to train with the La Liga giants.

Amsoccer founder Austin MacPhee said: “To use the facilities that Xavi and Iniesta use to prepare for Spain’s international games was wonderful.

“The players can make such progress in this environment where they live like young athletes and learn about the game.

“Spain are miles ahead in the players they have produced in the last 15 years, but also in the way footballers act.

“The group of players we took were a credit to themselves in the way they not only played but how they behaved.”
