Methil men back to winning ways

East Fife's players celebrate after Liam Gormley puts them one up.

EAST Fife got their first win in four weeks when they deservedly took the points from Cliftonhill.

An early goal by new boy Liam Gormley settled the visitors.

A second midway through the second half gave them a bit of breathing space and a late goal sealed the victory, to take them up to third bottom in the league table.

The visitors attacked from the kick-off and a Craig Johnstone foray forward saw a dangerous cross into the home goal area. Neither Sean Jamieson nor Bobby Barr could take advantage and the early opportunity had gone.

Albion then had a chance when a quick move upfield saw Howath find Crawford but his attempt flew past the upright.

East Fife looked more likely as an attacking force but Jamieson could not take advantage of a Scott McBride pass and was closed down on the edge of the penalty area.

The visitors did go ahead after 11 minutes when a Paul Willis pass found new boy Gormley.

The trialist showed an excellent turn of speed to leave the defence in his wake and he finished well, going round McGinley to put his new side one ahead.

The second period started off similarly, with the home side having plenty possession but little threat and East Fife unable to get a second goal to give themselves a cushion.

Bobby Barr had a good run and looked to have made a chance for himself but he hardly tested McGinlay.

Then there was a Jamieson effort, following a good build-up involving Smith and Durie, which the keeper collected easily.

Loanee Barr, a former Albion Rovers player, got the vital second goal after 69 minutes when he finished from close in a crowded penalty area following a corner.

With time running out, the Fifers killed off the game with four minutes left when McBride converted.

Jamie Pollock came on in the dying minutes to replace Gormley.
