Balwearie High School’s Adam Scott has secured a unique opportunity to compete on the Commonwealth Games athletics track at Hampden Park this weekend.

Adam (14) will run in the 1500m final at the Scottish Schools’ Athletic Championships, after winning the qualifying competition at Grangemouth.

It’s the only time the championships will be held at Hampden as the Commonwealth athletics arena will be converted back into a football stadium after Glasgow 2014.

Competing in the 1415 age group, Adam won his qualifier in an impressive time of 4.20.60, which was 15 seconds ahead of his nearest challengers.

He’s now favourite to add the Scottish Schools’ title to the East District 1500m title, which he won last month while competing for his club, Fife AC.

Adam will be joined at Hampden by fellow Balwearie pupils Bruce Millar, who will compete in the over17 5000m, and Jennifer Ritchie, who will run in the 100m and 200m in the 15-17 age group.

Calum Mitchell will represent St Andrew’s RC High School in the over17 100m.

Bruce, Jennifer and Calum did not have to go through a qualifying competition as all rounds in the older age groups will be held at Hampden.
