Michael Simpson from Auchtermuchty is enjoying his most successful bowls season to date.

Michael is a member of Strathmiglo Bowling Club and this season he helped the club to win the Tayside League and reach the quarter-finals of the Scottish Area Triples. In the Fife single hand competition he reached the second round and in the Fife top ten he reached the quarter-finals.

He is also a member of the Scottish Disability Bowls Squad and is hoping to be selected for the Eight Nations disability bowls International to be held at Kelvingrove in Glasgow, venue for the para – sport bowls competition of the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Michael was a medallist at the last IBD World Disability Bowls Championships in South Africa but his focus now is clearly on selection for Glasgow 2014 where Scotland will be defending a triples gold medal won in Manchester when the event was last included.

Like so many other high performance Scottish sports people, the possibility of representing Scotland at a Commonwealth Games in his own country is what is motivating Michael at the moment in every match he plays.

Balancing bowls ambitions with family life and quality time with Joshua (3) and Connor (4 months) is very challenging. With support from family and friends Michael is confident he will be able to address appropriately his personal and sporting commitments.

DSF president Richard Brickley said: “Michael is one of the leading physically disabled bowlers in the country and we wish him well in his efforts to gain selection for Team Scotland for Glasgow 2014.”
