Bowlers relish weekly coaching

A NEW initiative in 2011 has further strengthened opportunities for bowling enthusiasts who have disabilities.

Disability Sports Fife president Richard Brickley approached Beveridge Park Bowling Club to investigate the possibility of establishing weekly coaching for disabled bowlers who were already established players within the Fife programme.

Thursday afternoons are now assigned to coaching sessions for DSF members at the Kirkcaldy venue.

Club coaches have even extended the sessions to include novice players, while interest in the sessions has been Fife-wide.

DSF members, including Leven’s Craig Bernard, have been regular attendees.

Craig was among the key members of the Fife team that recently won the Inter Area Test Match at Musselburgh.

Lawn bowls is one of the most popular sports enjoyed by DSF members throughout Fife.

Over the years, DSF has enjoyed a very healthy relationship with a number of Fife clubs but in particular Beveridge Park, which has hosted its Lawn Bowls Championships for many years and also assisted DSF with other events.

Club members have played a significant part in the running of competitions.

The Thursday afternoon training sessions at the club have become a major hit with the players within a few weeks of being established.
