KIRKCALDY golfer Calum Lawson is taking his first steps into the sport’s professional ranks.
Lawson, whose dad Brian was also a golf pro, will join the Tartan Tour, a schedule which gives young golfers an introduction to the professional game, this season before, he hopes, making his move into the European Tour.
The 24-year-old previously belonged to Blairgowrie Golf Club but has now re-associated himself with the Kirkcaldy club where he learned the sport.
Speaking to the Press, Calum said: “I trained as an amateur in Belgium and had a few good finishes so turned professional.
“I spoke about it a lot with my dad before making the decision and also Donald McKay at Wellsgreen and Anthony Caira at Kirkcaldy Golf Club.
“They’ve been very encouraging.”
The young golfer is also appealing for sponsorship to any interested businesses or individuals.
In return a company name can be added to Lawson’s golfing equipment while there are also a raft of other benefits available to those who help the Kirkcaldy golfer along.
