The short-handed Largo first XI went down to a comprehensive defeat at the hands of top of the table Kirk Brae.

Batting first, Largo’s nine men could only muster 66 runs which the opposition knocked off in quick order for the loss of one wicket.

Although they have avoided relegation to Division 3, this season has been an uphill battle for the first XI largely due to a perfect storm of availability problems which seem to have dogged the club.

At East Drive, Upper Largo the second XI faced Division 5 league leaders Edinburgh Accies 2 in a top v bottom of the table match.

Winning the toss Accies decided to field first no doubt hoping to roll the Largo side over cheaply.

Opening batsmen D Coates and Naismith showed considerable resolve and got the Largo innings off to a good start scoring 13 and 21 respectively. Galloway(23) and skipper C Baddeley(29) both made valuable top order contributions while further down the batting order Nick Baddeley’s 17 runs helped the Largo side push the score to 156 for 8 in their 40 overs.

Having seen the Accies batsmen rattle up runs in quick time in Edinburgh Largo were decidedly anxious as Sehgal and Singh made good headway at the start of the Accies innings.

However the introduction of the spin of Galloway and C.Baddeley was to change the momentum of the match as they dismissed the top six Accies batsmen for 48 runs from their 16 overs with skipper Baddeley taking four wickets.

While Largo optimism grew Black and A Ramsay steadied the ship for Accies leading to a nail-biting finish.

Youngsters Jack Eglinton and Nick Baddeley then stepped up to the mark with Eglinton took the wicket of the dangerous Ramsay for 31 thanks to a C.Baddeley catch and N.Baddeley bowling Black for 14.

With runs required dropping rapidly it was young Baddeley who claimed the final wicket trapping the number 11 batsman Burad for a duck and Largo home by four runs.

On Sunday the Largo kwikcricket squad finished off their season playing in a tournament at Falkland.
