Glenrothes teenager Chloe Dickson made a stunning impact at The Commonwealth Fencing Championships held in Largs last week.

The former Glenwood High School pupil was a double silver medal winner in her first appearance at the event, which was attended by 300 athletes from 20 Commonwealth countries.

Chloe was part of the five-strong Scottish woman’s foil team that claimed silver with a great victory over England in the semi-finals followed by a defeat to champions Singapore in the final.

The 18-year-old then caused a sensation in the individual women’s foil defeating higher ranked fencers - including Scotland’s number one Lisa McKenzie - on her way to the final where she lost out to Wenying Wang from Singapore to claim the silver medal.

Since 1950, this is only Scotland’s seventh individual medal in the woman’s foil - a great achievement for Chloe who is still competing at under 20 level and who will represent Scotland at the Junior Commonwealth Fencing Championships in South Africa next summer.

The Scottish fencing team enjoyed one its most successful ever Championships, finishing a very close third in the medal table behind England and Singapore.
