Dunnikier Cricket Club welcomed top of the league side Kelso to Dunnikier Park on Saturday.
After winning the toss, home team captain Sharif decided to have a bat on a soft wicket, hoping to put runs on the board.
Unfortunately things did not go to plan as high scoring Arfan Yousaf fell first ball of the game.
Sharif and Rafi also fell cheaply and the score was 10 for three wickets after eight overs.
Saj Saeed was next in promoted to number five but was dismissed for 11.
Opening batsmen Rowley was still hanging in there with Aziz and the pair managed to steady the ship putting on a 60 partnership.
Dunnikier did at least bat their 50 overs taking the final total to 131 for eight wickets, giving the bowlers something to defend.
Both Dunnikier’s opening bowlers made quick inroads into the Kelso top order leaving the Borders side 8 for 3 after seven overs.
The next wicket fell at 47 leaving the match well balanced at this stage.
The Kelso middle order were proving difficult to remove and the game was slipping away from the Kirkcaldy side.
Kelso were now 110 for four wickets needing only 22 runs for victory.
Leading wicket taker Steve Rowley was handed the ball and made an early breakthrough bowling both the Kelso in-form batters.
A wicket for Sharif and another two wickets for Rowley had left Kelso teetering on 123 for 9. Dunnikier could taste victory now, needing one more wicket for victory.
Bowlers Aziz and Fareed tried hard to take the last wicket but the Kelso tail-enders battled it out to see their side home, worthy winners in the end.
This was Dunnikier’s first defeat of the 2015 campaign and they will now have to bounce back this weekend away to Edinburgh Accies.
