Eleven goal thriller: Thornton Hibs 6 - Luncarty 5

This game had a few similarities to the previous time these clubs met just nine weeks ago.

There were plenty of goals (the Hibs won 5-4 last time); Thornton took an early lead; a Luncarty player scored a hat-trick but ended up on the losing side.

The most significant one though, was that Lee White came on as a sub and ended up being the Hibs’ hero again.

Playing with a very strong wind behind their backs, the Hibs took less than sixty seconds to take the lead.

Adam Drummond’s clever pass found Coco Mullen who stroked the ball home with the Luncarty defence appealing in vain for offside.

In the 15th minute, the same man doubled the Hibs’ tally when he headed home Andy Adam’s cross.

Eight minutes later, Adam Drummond’s first time right foot shot from Kris Maxwell’s perfect assist made it three and five minutes at the back of that, Maxwell netted the fourth.

All over bar the shouting then? Not a bit of it.

Within a minute Robert Goodwillie had pulled one back.

Adam Drummond scored in the 36th minute to re-establish the Hibs’ four-goal advantage but then it was Luncarty’s turn to start finding the net regularly.

Goodwillie scored his second as he volleyed home from five yards and then John Mclean reduced the leeway to just two.

Goodwillie completed his hat-trick in the 54th minute to make it 5-4 and then in the 90th minute the visitors looked to have salvaged a point when Jamie Fairlie found the net.

Straight from the re-start though, the ball was quickly played up front where supersub, Lee White, showed his class with a finish that gave Jason Henderson no chance.

There was barely time for Luncarty to kick-off before Jordan Curran called a halt to proceedings.
