BUCKHAVEN’S Emma Mitchell has helped her Glasgow City Ladies Football Club side once again reach the Scottish Cup Final.
Mitchell ran the show in City’s 3-0 victory over Edinburgh rivals Hibernian last Wednesday night, netting twice and just failing to get her hat-trick.
In the early stages of the game, she was twice unlucky not to open the scoring, volleying over to begin with, then bringing out a fantastic save from the Hibernian ‘keeper as she hit a vicious shot towards goal.
City’s opener did eventually come and it was no surprise when the on-form Buckhaven lass got it.
Teammates Jane and Leanne Ross combined well down the right before a cross was put in for Mitchell to head home from eight yards out.
Mitchell almost doubled her side’s advantage two minutes later. Turning well inside the box, the striker shot just wide. She didn’t have to wait much longer though – soon after she hit a great left-foot shot from 18 yards out that went in off the left hand post.
City added a third late on but this time it was not Mitchell – who had a number of second-half efforts saved and almost turned provider for her teammates on two occasions.
Midfielder Jo Love headed a Danica Dalziel cross into the back of the net to make it 3-0 to City on the night.
City will now face Forfar Farmington in the final on November 11 at the Excelsior Stadium.
