European Tour golfer Peter Whiteford managed his first top 10 of the season on Sunday, with a little help from his seven-year-old niece!
Uncle Peter partnered little Katie Whiteford (7) in the popular Little and Large Open Championship at Wellsgreen Golf Range, a facility owned by the Whiteford family.
The competition, open to all abilities, saw teams of two, one adult over 21 and one child under 16, compete in alternate shot format over two rounds of Wellsgreen’s six-hole Wee Course.
Despite Peter’s failure to deliver on the promise of a hole-in-one, and even putting poor Katie in a bush, the duo managed to claim a seventh place finish, providing Peter with a much-needed boost ahead of this week’s Scottish Open at Royal Aberdeen.
There was a three-way tie for first place so the winning team was decided via a sudden death play-off, with Robbie and David McEwan claiming victory on the second extra hole, with Peter presenting the prizes.
Little and Large Open scoreboard: 1 Robbie McEwan & David McEwan 43; 2= James Leek & Julian Leek, Jack Lockhart & Bob Lockhart 43; 4 Callum Leeson & Jim Leeson 47; 5= Bailey Ferguson & Steve Ferguson, Murray Black & Kevin Black 48; 7= Rebecca Whiteford & Stewart Whiteford, Katie Whiteford & Peter Whiteford 49; 9 Kyle Duncan & Graeme Duncan 50; 10= Ryan King & Mark King, Jack Wilson & Nicol Wilson, Justin Shek & Allan Shek 51.
