Two Fife girls studying at Scotland’s Rural College have qualified for the Scottish Student Sports badminton ladies doubles cup final.

Chelsea Irvine, 18, from Kirkcaldy, and Elissa Nicholson, 17, from Leven, both studying NC Sport and Fitness at the SRUC Elmwood campus, recently spent a day competing against other Scottish Colleges in the East Regional Qualifiers.

The event is organised by Scottish Student Sport, the co-ordinating body for all student sport and physical activity in Scotland.

Chelsea said: “I’m very surprised to have made it this far but I’m excited and looking forward to the challenge.”

Elissa added: “We have competed against some tough competition, but we have had a lot of support from Donald Mackay, the sport and fitness co-ordinator.

“We have been practicing every day we have been in college.”

Donald added: “I’m delighted for Chelsea and Elissa. This is the fourth year in a row Elmwood has had representation in the finals.

“It is a great opportunity for the students to test themselves against the best athletes within Scotland’s colleges and universities.”

The final will be held on April 30 at Ravenscraig Sports Centre, in Motherwell.
