A FORMER Fife footballer is heading for London 2012 – with the New Zealand women’s national team.
Gordon Forrest, who played for Raith Rovers and East Fife, moved to New Zealand last year to take on a role as a football development officer.
He was also appointed assistant head coach of the country’s women’s team, and he has helped them to qualify to compete at this summer’s Olympic Games.
Gordon told the Press: “It’s a fantastic honour to have this opportunity to be involved in the Olympic games.
“We have a great squad of players who have worked so hard in the build up and qualification games and we are now preparing with further games against China, Australia, and a competition in Switzerland enroute to London.”
Gordon will even help open the Games as New Zealand Women take on Team GB in the opening event of the whole Olympics in Cardiff.
They follow this up with group games against Brazil and Cameroon.
