In the run up to the Glenrothes Road Running Festival, local Active Schools co-ordinator Jaki Paul, pictured centre, and her colleagues Pauline Jones and Fiona Ashton-Jones are making a determined effort for the second year running to redress the balance by organizing a Girls Only Running Club.

Jaki said: “Last year saw the Festival scheduling a 2k event for the first time which is an ideal distance for runners for whom the other races are perhaps either too long or too short, and this particular event has been sculpted as an ideal halfway house race, with the target groups like young girls in mind that the research has identified as in need of greater inclusion.”

The year the club is meeting every Friday afternoon during the run-up to race day between 4pm and 5pm at the Fife Sports Institute in Viewfield Road and is open to girls aged between 12 and 17 from all over Fife.

Jaki said: “We will be looking closely at the response this year to see if it might even become a more permanent feature.”
