GLENROTHES Athletic 1997s put in another fantastic performance to progress to the Final of the Fife Youth Development League Cup Final with a well deserved 2-1 win against Blue Brazil at Venters Park, Cowdenbeath.
Athletic started the match slowly with Blue Brazil getting a lot of the ball in the Athletic half in the first 10-15 minutes.
Despite this, Athletic goalie Connor was only forced into one save in the whole first half.
Around the 20 minute mark Athletic striker Ally scored from just inside the six yard box as Callum S had his effort deflected into his path. Athletic continued to look dangerous on the break and forced the Brazil goalkeeper into some fine saves throughout the period, and Ally also hit the bar with another effort on 30 minutes.
The second-half was always going to be a nervy affair for both sides and this showed throughout the half.
Brad scored a very good breakaway effort after being put through one-on-one with the ‘keeper and placing the ball through his legs for 2-0. Brazil got some reward for their pressure on 65 minutes when they scored after a cross from the left side.
The final minutes played out with Athletic soaking up a lot of late pressure, with Brazil throwing everything up front in search of the equaliser.
It was the away side that emerged victorious after a workman-like performance and some attractive football despite the obvious pressure.
Coach David Todd commented: “Well done to both teams who showed great sportsmanship throughout and entertained the large amount of spectators from start to finish.
“This final is a massive achievement for the club and every player should be very proud of their efforts in getting there.”
Warout Stadium is the venue for the final on 3 June.
