Glenrothes Boxing Club is buzzing at the moment.
Andrei Podusov, the club’s super featherweight British masters champion, travelled to Liverpool Echo Arena on Saturday and boxed unbeaten Matt Fagan, who had seven wins and no defeats, and who sold over £10,000 worth of tickets.
The fight was shown on television, on the Box Nation channel, and the Kirkcaldy-based Latvian stood toe-to-toe for six rounds with Fagan, working the head and body with some nice combination punches.
Fagan suffered a cut above the left eye in the third round, and after the doctor allowed the fight to continue, Andrei won on a points decision.
Glenrothes BC head coach Stevie McGuire Snr says it’s “onwards and upwards” for Andrei, who will now box for an international title in the new year.
Next up for the Caskieberran club on Monday is lightweight British masters gold champion, Stuart Green, who will box Russian Janis Puksins for the vacant WBO international title over 10 rounds in front of former world champion Thomas ‘Hitman’ Hearns, who took on Sugar Ray Leonard, Marvin Haggler and Roberto Duran in close world title fights.
Then Connor Law will make his pro debut against an opponent still to be confirmed on Saturday, November 15, at Ravenscraig Sports Centre, Motherwell. Tickets are still available for these two shows - phone 07957450322.
