Star Hearts put their disappointing league form behind them to progress to the semi-final of the Scottish Brewers Cup, thanks to a penalty shoot-out win over Eastvale at Windygates.

After a blank first-half Hearts went in front on the hour mark with Stuart Martin heading home. Vale replied with 15 minutes remaining to send the tie into a penalty shoot-out. It was Star who held their nerve the better to emerge 8-7 victors and they will now meet Cupar Hearts in the semi-final on a date yet to be decided.

In the Fife Amateur Football Association, Glenrothes Strollers welcomed Balgonie Scotia to Over Stenton for an Usher Cup group four match.

The home side were quick out the blocks and raced into a 1-0 lead, but strikes from Daniel Sheppard and Greg Morris sent Scotia in 2-1 up at the interval.

The visitors maintained their momentum after the re-start and the same duo found the net again to complete a 4-1 win.

In Division Two, Lomond United had a good 5-3 away win over Kirkcaldy Rovers, but in contrast Leslie Hearts came away from Dundonald pointless after going down 3-2.

Balgonie Scotia’s Kingdom side will bid for a place in the final of the Fence N Deck Cup this Saturday when they will face either Strathmiglo United, or Star Hearts who were to play on Tuesday evening.
