Kirkcaldy GT racer Jonny Adam made an impressive debut in the Blancpain Sprint Series at Zolder in Belgium over the weekend.
Racing with his British GT Championship team, Beechdean AMR, Adam shared driving duties with ex-F1 test driver Andy Soucek from Spain to score top five finishes in both of the one-hour races in the Aston Martin Vantage GT3.
The team made a good start to the weekend, setting the second fastest time in free practice one and third fastest in free practice two. After a tricky qualifying, both Adam and Soucek qualified 14th just missing out on the top 13 shoot out for Q3.
In race one, after an eventful start and a safety car period, the Beechdean AMR team performed a slick pit-stop and after some impressive manoeuvres, the duo finally finished in a very competitive fifth place.
For race two, the ice cream team started from fifth but on the green flag the number 107 car dropped to sixth to avoid an incident. Then the two safety cars in the first half of the race hampered Soucek’s chances of moving up the grid.
With some smart strategy and a perfect pit-stop, Adam exited in fourth place and continued his charge to the front of the pack. After the pit-stops were completed they were just pipped to the post and crossed the line in fifth.
Jonny said: “For our first weekend in the Blancpain Sprint Series, to score two fifth places was a great achievement and underlines the strength of the Aston Martin Vantage GT3.
“The team and car performed very well over the weekend and it was a pleasure to drive with Andy Soucek. This weekend has helped with our preparation towards our next race in Baku.”
