St Andrews...................................1

KENNOWAY were in Ron Brindley Cup second-round action as they entertained St Andrews.

The game started at a good pace and it wasn’t long before Martyn Thomson opened the scoring.

St Andrews, however, were not disheartened and some good play saw them break the Kennoway defence and equalise within five minutes.

Kennoway quickly re-grouped and took the lead courtesy of an acrobatic diving header from Martyn Thomson.

The hosts had a spot-kick claim denied by the referee, but they were soon awarded a penalty as, after a surging run, Thomson was fouled inside the visitors box.

Thomson then stepped up and slotted the penalty home, putting Kennoway 3-1 up and securing his own hat-trick.

The second half started much where the first had ended, with a strong Kennoway side dominating the play against skilled but outplayed opposition.

The game settled into a midfield battle with both sides having chances to score.

It was late in the game when Kennoway substitute Gary Ramsey surged past the St Andrews defence and passed the ball across the face of goal to Thomson, while one-on-one with the St Andrews keeper, allowing Thomson to net his and Kennoway’s fourth goal of the day.
