Leslie BC notched up their second 6-2 victory in consecutive weeks in last Friday’s Wemyss League match against Leven BC.
Following on from their first victory of the campaign against near neighbours Dovecot BC, the club carved out a narrow win against their visitors from Leven.
In the first game, Bill Cathro’s rink had a right old tussle with Dave Hamilton’s rink until the 12th end where the Leslie rink took a six to edge ahead 14-11.
Followed by another four shots and two singles, with the Leven rink only managing two singles in reply, the game ended in a 20-13 victory for the home side.
In the middle game, Iain Martin’s rink had a very close encounter with Rab Linnie’s Leven rink. With the game swinging back and forth, with no more than 3 shots separating the two rinks, Martin found himself trailing 14-17 going to the last end. Lying two shots, skip Martin failed by the narrowest of margins with his last bowl to secure what would have been a creditable draw.
The last game was also a very close affair with Derek Lowe’s rink narrowly defeating Bill Chapman’s rink. With the match evenly poised throughout, the home side found themselves trailing by a single shot playing the last end. With the visitors lying game, the home skip played his last bowl to edge out the Leven bowl and lie the two shots required to pip their opponents at the post. The game was not quite over yet as the Leven skip still had the last bowl. Chapman was very unlucky not to edge the jack towards his own bowl, only succeeding in edging in another Leslie bowl to lose a count of 3 shots.
Scores (Leslie skips first)- W. Cathro v. D. Hamilton 20-13; I. Martin v. R. Linnie 16-17; D. Lowe v. W. Chapman 14-12; and Leslie BC v. Leven BC 50-42.
