MARKINCH Bowling Club

The finals week at East Fife Indoor B.C. finished on Friday and there was success for Markinch players involved during the week.

In the Juniors competitions, Ewan Comrie lost in the Pairs final, while Tony Dewar played lead in winning the Triples Cup, with Ryan Todd playing for the opposition. In the Fours final, Ewan Comrie played in the winning rink, while Ryan Todd and Amy Comrie played for the opposition rink.

In the Ladies competitions, A.Blackadder played in the rink which won the Club Fours Cup and she was also a member of the team which finished runners up in the Ladies Club league, while R.Bunting played in the rink which won the National Fours Cup.

In the gents competitions there was another win for W.Hogg in the 2-Bowl Pairs Cup, while T.Pettigrew, J.Clark and S.McFarlane were members of the team which won the K.E.Automatics Div.1 Trophy.

On Saturday the visitors to Markinch were Duffus Park B.C. to play in our annual fixture friendly, although the scores did not suggest the game was ‘friendly’. However, the friendly part in the game was the frequent visits to the bar, although this may have been the reason for the wayward bowling from some of the Markinch players. The individual scores were wins for P.Mathewson (24-12) and J.Dewar (19-18), but there were defeats for Ms.A.Calder (11-30), Ms.R.Bunting(15-16), P.McTavish (15-23) and a crushing loss for J.Lafferty (6-37).

The overall score was a win for the visitors by 136 shots against 90, which was the first loss in the “friendly” fixtures. Any member wanting to be included in the draw for the club competitions must ensure their names are entered on the sheets in the forthcoming week.

The first game in the Wemyss League is away to Buckhaven B.C. on Friday, 4 May at 6.30pm and the players selected have been posted on the notice board. Any player selected, who is unavailable, must contact the Match Secretary ASAP.

The first game in the Seniors League is Wednesday, 9 May and the teams will be displayed on the notice board in the forthcoming week.
