Lomond Colts Girls won the 2012 Fife/Perthshire League with a hard fought win against their Fife rivals, Dunfermline, at Pitreavie on Saturday.
After a comfortable 9-0 win against Glenrothes Strollers earlier in the week, Colts came into the game just needing to avoid defeat.
However, they were hungry for a win and they soon went ahead in the first-half through two goals from striker Michaela McLaughlan, the first after carefully sidestepping the goalkeeper to score, and the second from a rasping shot from 20 metres which sailed into the top corner.
Piercing runs from Niamh Irvine and Louise Howes kept Dunfermline on their toes, while Tyler Rattray almost got a third when she escaped her marker in the box, but her fierce shot hit the post.
With a strong wind dominating the second-half, Dunfermline threw everything they had at Colts and might have pulled one back but for a last minute sliding tackle from Sophie Aitken which swept the ball from the Dunfermline striker’s feet.
The Colts defence – with some fine saves from Erin Clachers - held firm, and in the end it was a deserved win to give the Glenrothes team the league title, to add to their East of Scotland League Cup win earlier in the season.
