The curtain came down on the 2011/12 National Hunt season on Saturday, and with 38 winners it saw Lucy Alexander, from Kinneston outside Leslie, emerge as the leading female jumps jockey.
Her 38 winners smashed the previous best by a British rider and was just one shy of Irish rider Nina Carberry’s record of 39.
Lucy has had an exceptional first season riding as a professional, and has been spoken of highly by the people in the know including former champion John Francome.
During the season Lucy rode 332 horses and amassed a total of £188, 779 for her connections.
It may be the end of the season, but jump jockeys don’t get much of a break, and the new season got underway on Sunday when Lucy had been to take one ride at Wetherby, but the meeting was abandoned due to waterlogging.
