LUNDIN Sports Tennis Club made it seven wins out of seven by defeating Glenfarg in their latest Tayside Tennis League Division IV match.
The team reverted to more regular pairings for this fixture, with Brian Ortmann and Andy Cargill reunited again.
Greg Traill took his place alongside Stuart Kerr and Jim Douglas returned to the line-up to partner his son Jamie.
The tone was set as early as the first meeting, when Ortmann and Cargill took Glenfarg’s top pairing apart with a comprehensive 6-0, 6-1 scoreline. In the second match, Traill and Kerr stormed their way to a 6-1 first set score but took their foot off the gas in the second to let it slip 4-6. Jamie and Jim Douglas played in fits and starts in their opening encounter but still managed to win 6-4, 6-2.
When the second round of matches got under way, Ortmann and Cargill didn’t concede a single game and Traill and Kerr combined brilliantly in their outing to crush their counterparts 6-3, 6-1.
With the points already secure Jamie and Jim Douglas repeated their 6-4, 6-2 score.
In the third and final meetings, Ortmann and Cargill swept aside Glenfarg’s seconds 6-3, 6-1, Traill and Kerr blasted the travelling side’s firsts with a tremendous return of 6-2, 6-2. Jamie and Jim Douglas added the icing to the cake with 6-2, 7-6 wins.
With the final score 8.5 to 0.5 in Lundin’s favour, it appears the side are serious championship contenders with this week’s away trip to Broughty Ferry taking on even greater significance.
