Any athlete or cyclist intending to compete at this years Markinch Highland Games on Sunday, 3 June should note that entries close this Sunday.
With the games taking place during the official four day celebrations for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, two special races will take place at the John Dixon Park event, an invitation Diamond Jubilee’ 60 metres handicap and Invitation Diamond Jubilee Veterans 60 metres handicap.
Both races will take place on the ancient ‘Chariots of Fire’ type string-laned track, the only one of it’s kind left on the Highland Games circuit.
Runners can also enter for the open 90 metres handicap which carries a first prize of £200, there is also open events over 200m, 400m, 800, 1600m and 3200m.
Youth athletes have races over the same distance with the exception of the 3200m.
Cyclists have four events they can enter with the highlight the Scottish 8000 metres Championship, there are also handicaps over 800m and 1600m and a Deil tak the Hindmost.

The strongmen will compete over seven disciplines including the 28lb weight for distance which last year saw the World record broken by Gregor Edmunds from Glasgow.
