LIAM Rennie overcame not only the wet conditions at the Cowdenbeath Racewall but a late race suspension before winning Saturday’s Red 5 Panels-sponsored mini Saltire Championship.

Micky Nelson returned to the formula II fold after missing over a season with the drivers contesting the second leg of the ‘Take the High Road’ series.

Fife drivers in action were Gregor Turner (Dunfermline), Paul Reid (Cowdenbeath), Raymond Dick (Glenrothes), Alan Kirkaldy (St Andrews) and Gordon Moodie (Windygates).

Moodie (pictured in car number seven) was second in heat one and slowed to retire from heat two, but later won the Grand National.

This Saturday, the formula II drivers contest their Scottish Championship, where Alan Kirkaldy will defend his title.

However, he will face strong opposition from Gordon Moodie and Chris Burgoyne, while Robbie Dawson, George MacMillan Jnr and Dennis Middler will be looking for an upset.

The formula IIs are backed up by the saloons, stock rods and a caravan race.

As usual, the meeting starts at 6pm.
