Kirkcaldy fighter Steven Ray is competing in one of Europe’s top mixed martial events this Saturday.
The 23-year-old will take part in a four-man tournament for the lightweight championship at Cage Warriors 60, taking place at The Forum in London.
The title was vacated earlier this by Connor McGregor, who has signed with the UFC, leaving an opportunity for another fighter to take the helm.
The victorious fighter will need to overcome two opponents in one night for the right to be crowned the 155lbs champion and Ray is up against one the most experienced lightweights in the country, 29-year-old Jason Ball, in his semi-final.
Ray’s preparation for the weekend has included a trip to Canada to train at the world famous Tristar MMA facility, where he received top quality coaching and sparring from some of the world’s best fighters.
“It’s amazing I am getting the chance to fight for the Cage Warriors belt,” said the former St Andrews High School pupil. “I feel confident about this. I know I can win this but anything can happen in MMA, and I’m sure everyone is training hard.
“I’m just gonna make sure I’m in the best shape ever and I can go hard every round – I’m looking forward to this.”
