Beghin to help club on and off the field
Glenrothes Cricket Club have secured the signing of record breaking batsman Graeme Beghin for next season.
Graeme played for Edinburgh South in ESCA Division One last season where he rewrote the East League record books, scoring over 1200 runs, a highest score of 156 and an average of 86.
He also did well with the ball, taking 30 wickets at an average of 13.
As well as his credentials on the field Glenrothes are excited by what Graeme will bring to the club from a coaching perspective.
During the Scottish Winter he coaches at the Cricket School of Excellence in Cape Town and he has big plans from both a structural and practical perspective for the Glenrothes Gladiators (juniors).
For the first time, with Graeme co-ordinating, the club will be running camps for youngsters throughout the Easter and summer school holidays from its new Gilvenbank ground.
Upon joining Glenrothes, Graeme stated: “From speaking to people within the Scottish cricket scene I was well aware of Glenrothes’ story and the progress made both on and off the field in recent years.
“I was very excited by the opportunity on offer, especially working with the kids in local schools and at the Gladiators.”
Chris Greaves, club captain, added: “We were very aware of Graeme’s well publicised on-field exploits with Edinburgh South last season.
“Whilst he’ll be an excellent addition to our playing squad it was the work Graeme did with the kids in Edinburgh last year, plus his experience working with juniors in Cape Town, which carried the greatest appeal.
“I’m sure he’ll be a big help to me in my first season as club captain and I have no doubt he’ll quickly feel part of the GCC family.”
