ROVERS played their first game of the New Year at home in the league against Methilhill and hammered them 7-1.
Rovers took the lead when a Neale Smith pass sent Craig Cameron through on goal and he slotted the ball home.
Methilhill were trying hard to get back in the game, and their efforts paid off when they equalised with just under 10 minutes of the half remaining.
Some good play between their front two ended with a shot by their striker from around 25 yards that flew into the bottom corner.
The second half started well for Rovers and they regained the lead when a Jimmy Hughes cross from the right fell to Smith, who drilled the ball into the net from 16 yards.
The third came after a defence-splitting pass from Liam Tarvit found Liam McGhee, and he ran on to finish low into the corner of the net from just inside the box.
Rovers were now in control of the match and they scored again to make it 4-1 midway through the half.
A ball down the right by Alex Bowman was crossed into the box and Smith was in the right position, this time volleying the ball home from a tight angle.
The fifth was scored when Craig Cameron made a good run down the right and squared the ball for Gary Wishart to flick it home at the near post.
Further chances were created, with a great run from his own half by David Young who shot narrowly over, and a good move in midfield that ended with a Neale Smith shot from 25 yards that was also too high.
In the final five minutes, Rovers scored two more goals to complete the demolition and an excellent second half.
A David Wilson pass found Craig Cameron who shot low into the corner from 16 yards and, in the last minute, a penalty was awarded and Smith made no mistake from the spot to complete his hat-trick.
Saturday’s match ball was sponsored by Brian Adamson.
