DESPITE experiencing their worst-ever season in the Glendale Plastics League, where they finished second bottom, Star Hearts have given themselves the opportunity of ending the season with silverware.
On Saturday, at their own Treaton Park, Star won through to the final of the Scottish Brewers Cup.
A single strike 10 minutes into the second-half from Martin McConnell gave them a 1-0 triumph over champions elect Cupar Hearts who sit 60 points ahead of Star in the league table.
Star will now face Lumphinnans United in the final a week on Friday at the home of Kelty Hearts.
As the season draws to a close the fixtures are thinning out and only a couple of Fife Amateur Football Association matches involving local sides were played at the weekend.
For the second successive week, Glenrothes Strollers and Glenrothes Amateurs met in the Usher Cup, and on this occassion the latter gained revenge with a 4-1 win.
In Division Two Leslie Hearts lost out 1-3 at Quarry Park to Balgonie Scotia.
In the Premier Division this Saturday, Lomond Vics host Pittenweem Rovers, while in Division Two Glenrothes await Lomond United.
