There is just over a week to go until HRP Lochgelly Raceway opens its doors for the 2014 season.
The first event of the year takes place next Sunday, March 2, at 2.00 p.m and features 1300 Stock Cars, 2.0 Hot Rods, Stock Rods and Ministox.
By the time this meeting takes place, some of the local Superstox drivers – Chris Stewart, David Frame and Barry Stephen – will have competed in their British Championship at Ipswich the previous evening.
Following rave reviews in 2013, the ‘Friday Nights under the Lights’ are also back, although the action now moves to the start of each month with the first meeting taking place on March 7 featuring Superstox, 1300 Stock Cars, ProStocks and CC Rods.
Less than two months into the season the top National Hot Rod pilots from all over Europe return to Lochgelly to once again compete for their European Championship over April 26 and 27.
Chris Haird was in dominant form at the corresponding event in 2013 as he took both the European and Open Scottish titles and he will have to work to repeat this feat as he competes against the best of the best in one of short oval motorsport’s elite formulas.
The second championship weekend of the season sees another two major titles contested over June 14 and 15.
The Ideal Commercials Superstox European Championship will see Matt Carberry defend the title he won last year at Ipswich, while the Stock Rods British Championship takes place over the same weekend.
World, National and National Points champion Chris Lattka will start as pre-race favourite but a huge field featuring all of the top drivers in the formula is expected and he will certainly not have an easy job.
Another highlight of this weekend will be the Ministox who will be competing for the HRP Gold Cup and UK Challenge Trophies. It is rare for the youngsters to be given equal billing with the senior formulas but Hardie Race Promotions have elected to reward the young drivers after a fantastic season in 2013.
On Sunday, June 29, Lochgelly Raceway will once again make history as the BriSCA F1 Stock Cars return to Scotland for the first time in several years.
The spectacular V8 powered machines are bound to be an incredible sight with many of the big names expected to be in attendance.
