ELIE Sports Club and Wellsgreen Golf Centre have been tasked with breathing new life into Scottish golf as part of a national junior programme.

Golfing groups the Scottish Golf Union (SGU), Scottish Ladies’ Golfing Association (SLGA) and ClubGolf have teamed up to roll out 50 development centres across the country over the next three years, with the first clubs, including Elie, Wellsgreen and the St Andrews Links Trust, teeing off next month.

The programme will provide young players with access to additional high-quality coaching and advice for those looking to progress from the early stages of ClubGolf, the national junior golf programme, to the more elite Scottish Golf Academy.

Kevin Cademy-Taylor, Scottish Golf performance development manager, said the centres will be open to boys and girls, aged between 11 and 17, who have a club handicap and who nominate themselves by using the ClubGolf website.

He added: “ The facilities we have selected will provide an environment which will allow them (young golfers) to work on all these aspects, so it’s not just about hitting balls on a driving range.”
