Kirkcaldy cage fighter Graeme Callaghan came away with his first MMA victory in three attempts.

The former Kirkcaldy High School pupil had lost and drawn his previous two fights but was victorious in his total combat bout against Darren Hawes from Evolution MMA in Darlington.

Graeme (25) travelled to Durham for the bout with his training partner, Kirkcaldy’s Cagewarriors world champion Steven Ray, who trains alongside Graeme four nights a week at Higher Level MMA in Whitburn.

Steven said that Graeme has improved enormously since joining the club, ranked number one in Britain, and that he had dominated the fight.

He said: “He landed good leg kicks and body kicks in round one and controlled his opponent against the cage until getting the takedown and finished on top.

“He basically did the same in the second round but after me demonstrating in between the rounds when it was a rest I demonstrated in the cage how he passed the half guard.

“He then ended up in the position in round two, passed his half guard and locked in a kimura, which is a shoulder lock.

“That ended the fight roughly three minutes into the second round.”
