All eyes on Legacy Sevens

WITH league rugby over for another season all eyes at Howe are focused on the seven-a-side game.

Once again Howe are one of the core teams in the Legacy Seven Series with the Tournaments this year increased to five, Stirling County, Sunday (April 22), Boroughmuir on Friday, April 27, Howe of Fife Saturday, May 5, Hamilton Saturday, May 12 and culminating at Glasgow City Sevens on Saturday, May 19, hosted by Cartha Queens Park.

The ethos of the Legacy Sevens Series was to raise interest in Sevens Rugby in the run up to the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow in 2014 and with the inclusion of an extra tournament at Hamilton this year and two local clubs reinstating their tournaments, Kirkcaldy on April 27 and Perthshire on the May 12, both of which a Howe 2nd Seven will attend, it seems to be having the desired affect. The core teams this season are Howe of Fife, Cartha QP, Boroughmuir, Hamilton, Stirling County, Glasgow Hawks, Dundee HS, Stewart’s Melville, Dalziel and Aberdeen Grammer FP, all of whom will attend the Carters Howe Sevens they will be joined by six local teams Madras FP, Dunfermline, Kirkcaldy, Perthshire, Greenock Wanderers and lastly, charity side Pigbarians.

CHALLENGE

As JR Gray Trophy holders and Legacy Sevens runners up, the home side will relish the challenge of facing the mainly Premier League opposition. In the draw for the Boroughmuir tournament Howe will face Dalziel and Dundee HS in pool D with a chance of facing ether Stirling County, Hamilton or Cartha QP if they win their pool.

The draw for the Carters Howe Sevens is: Boroughmuir v Cartha QP, Glasgow Hawks v Perthshire, Aberdeen GSFP v Madras FP, Stirling County v Stewart’s Melville, Howe of Fife v Kirkcaldy, Greenock Wanderers v Dunfermline, Hamilton v Pigbarians and Dundee HS v Dalziel. The first tie will take place at 1pm.

The Carters Howe Sevens will as usual include the Ferrier Cup Tournament for teams who are knocked out in the first round of the main competition and will take place on pitch 2 at 3pm. The U18’s Tournament for the Drummond Cup will kick-off at noon and will be played in two pools of four with the final taking place on the main pitch around 3pm. Pool A Kirkcaldy, Howe of Fife 1, Glenrothes and Boroughmuir. Pool B Dunfermline, Howe of Fife 2, Dundee Eagles and Greenock Wanderers.

With so much talent on view we hope to attract big local support at Duffus Park on May 5.
