Feast of rugby in the park!

A FEAST of rugby takes place at Beveridge Park this Saturday as Kirkcaldy Rugby stage their annual club barbecue.

It all gets under way from 11.00 a.m as the club’s S1 and S2 teams take on a touring Dunbar side.

The action continues as the Kirkcaldy Colts - the club’s under 18 side - take on Dunfermline U18s at 1.00 p.m.

The senior side then take to the field for a preseason friendly with added spice - a derby match against local rivals Dunfermline kicking off at 3.00 p.m.

The club barbecue then follows from 7.00 p.m with tickets priced at £7.

Kirkcaldy lost to West of Scotland in a friendly on Saturday past, but player-coach Quintan Sanft saw plenty positives.

“We lost by five tries to three, but we were 10 times better than we were the previous Saturday against Dalziel.

“We’ll be looking to take those improvements into the Dunfermline game.

“It’s maybe a friendly but it’s still a derby so we’re expecting a competitive game.”

The Blues coach also reported that the injury suffered by last year’s Star Check winner, Shaun Orr, against Dalziel is not as bad as first feared.

There were concerns he had damaged ligaments, but he has only twisted his knee and is expected to return for the final friendly against Greenock next Saturday.

Long term injury casualties Iain Gillies and Gavin McKenzie are also nearing a return and are expected to be fit in time for the first league match on August 25.
