Waid Buccaneers

THE Waid Buccaneers were in action recently at the Golden Oldies rugby festival at St Andrews.

The Anstruther over-35s had a successful festival, winning all three of their games.

First up was a match against the Referees which Waid won handsomely by six tries to two.

Try scorers for the Buccs were Bill Hughes, Mick McCowan, Harry Brown, Zander Anderson, Michael Adamson and David Brown.

The second game was against Hillfoots Castups and Waid emerged victorious by two tries to nil, as Iain Brocklebank and David Brown crossed the line to touch down.

Waid’s final game was against Mackie Mammoths.

This was a bruising encounter and Waid won by two tries to nil, with Harry Brown and Duncan Fraser grabbing the scores.

Perhaps the most memorable part of the game was a remarkable cover tackle by Alan Gordon, who rolled back the years with a superb run to knock his opponent into touch and prevent a try.

In the spirit of Golden Oldies, there were no winners and losers.

However, Waid will be delighted with their performances on the day.
