star to shine at tourney?

Star Hearts host their annual pre-season tournament this weekend.

At stake is the Andrew Leitch Memorial Trophy, named after a late club stalwart.

On Saturday, the Treaton Park team take on Craigie Amateurs , a match with a 12.30p.m. kick-off, and that will be followed at 2.30p.m. with the second semi-final between Fifers Newport Amateurs and Rannoch Amateurs, from Stirling.

On Sunday, the third/fourth place play-off game starts at 12.30p.m., with the final getting underway at 2.30p.m. Hearts continued their build up to the new season with a 2-0 win over Fife Amateur Football Association side, Fife Thistle, at Balmullo.

In other friendlies involving local amateur teams, Lomond Vics accounted for Balgonie Scotia 2-0 and Valleyfield defeated Glenrothes Amateurs 5-3, while Kettle United and Leslie Hearts played out a 2-2 draw.

In the junior ranks, Thornton Hibs have also played a number of pre-season friendlies, with more to come.

Last Wednesday, the Memorial Park team defeated Greig Park Rangers 4-0 at Leven, where the scorers were Lee White (2), Gary Thomson and Chris Ireland.

On Saturday, Hibs won 7-1 against Jeanfield Swifts Amateurs, the goals coming from Gary Thomson (3), Chris Ireland, Lee White, Kris Maxwell and Stevie Gillan.

Tonight (Wednesday), Hibs play Kelty Hearts at Quarry Park, Leslie (7pm).

Next Saturday, they are away to Leven United.

Glenrothes travel to Kettle United on Saturday, having recorded a 4-0 win over Strathmiglo United at the weekend and a 3-0 success against Lochee United last Monday.

That’s all ahead of the big kick-off in the amateur and junior leagues on August 11.
