WAID’S rugby squad registered an impressive 35-29 victory on Saturday over league leaders Dundee University.
Three first-half tries from flying winger Mark McKenzie did the damage to the students and a further try from Waid powerhouse Fergus Middleton gave Waid a commanding half-time lead.
Dundee launched a comeback in the second half and got to within one score of Waid.
They would have almost certainly scored at the end, had it not been for a try-saving tackle from Waid flanker Gary McClaggan.
The win secured a top four finish for Waid in Caledonia League 3 and means they will compete with the top teams in Caledonia 3 West when the leagues merge from December 1.
This weekend, Waid host Harris 2nds in a rearranged league fixture with a 2pm kick-off.
