Glenrothes went into this game hoping that a win against the league’s basement team would ensure that they retained their league position for next season.

But instead they are left in a relegation battle with two difficult away matches still to play.

The opening exchanges of the game were fairly even, but Aberdeen University’s forwards eventually took control.

On 18 minutes it was a forward drive that gave them the opening try of the game, followed by a missed conversion.

The Aberdeen kicker made amends shortly thereafter by stretching their lead with a penalty when Reds strayed offside.

Poor tackling by Reds allowed the Aberdeen lock to cross for another unconverted try and take a 15 point lead.

Reds had to score next if they were to have any hope of taking something from this game and they duly obliged when Michael Delorey touched down for his first try of the day with Steven Dean adding the points from a well taken conversion.

There was still time for both kickers to add three points to their teams score sheet with penalties before the first-half ended with a score of 18-10.

This was as close as Redswere to get with Aberdeen scoring three more tries in the second-half, two of them converted.

For Reds tries from Michael Delorey and Steven Dean made the score line a little more respectable.

While the back line continues to look dangerous and the forwards can usually hold their own in scrum and lineout, lack of ball from rucks and mauls continues to haunt Reds
