Waid Academy FPRFC.....32
Crieff & Strathearn RFC..28
DESPITE Waid’s first XV celebrating their 125th anniversary at a special dinner the evening before, they pulled off a win to cause upset for the travelling Perthshire side in the Midlands Bowl.
It wasn’t long before Waid got their hands on the ball and used the backs to spin it out wide to winger Lucas Miskiewicz, who touched down for a converted try.
Waid soon found themselves stuck in their own 22 and the visitors edged closer to the danger area.
However, Waid managed to steal, but not before a foul was committed by the home side.
Crieff easily slotted the penalty through the posts.
The visitors then got the try their efforts deserved and were now leading, only for flanker Eric Anderson to fire through the visitors line to touch down.
Crieff took the lead once again after slotting home a couple of penalties.
Fergus Middleton charged off in search of a try to put Waid back in front, before Crieff again came back.
Waid got their act together, though, and Rory Doak burst up the middle to put Waid in fantastic position.
Full-back John Murray then ran the ball up the wing before off-loading to Andy MacIver, who crashed through.
Waid were down by one point and needed something special to recover their lead.
Eventually, Waid were awarded a penalty which scrum half Kieran Doak converted.
Another penalty in Waid’s favour was notched up and, soon afterwards, the full time whistle blew.
This week, Waid travel north to play Montrose. Kick off is at 2pm.
