BEST-selling crime writer Ian Rankin teamed up with one of his youngest fans on a trip to St Andrews last week.
Connor Payne, aged four, from Guardbridge, met the celebrated Fife novelist as he signed copies of his books at J. & G. Innes, in South Street.

Ian, creator of the hard-living Edinburgh detective, John Rebus, was in town to support festivities for Independent Booksellers Week.

Ian is no stranger to St Andrews, of course.

In March, he was one of the key participants in the StAnza festival of poetry and literature, which the organisers later described as the busiest and best to date in the event's 12-year history.

Back in November, Ian, an honorary graduate of St Andrews University, was the special guest at the official opening of the £2 million Museum of the University of St Andrews (MUSA), at The Scores.
